Butterick 6161: a girls’ dress with character

This is a medium-difficulty sewing pattern, so it’s a great choice if you want clear instructions and a project you can enjoy making step by step. The dress has a lined bodice, tie ends, a raised waist and skirt variations, giving you a design with plenty of personality.

Why you’ll enjoy sewing it

The different style options let you create a dress that feels special, whether you’re making it for an occasion or as a standout everyday outfit. Version A includes a front waistband, ruffles and stays. Version B uses the lining to create a bubble effect. Version C has a shaped hemline with the lining visible at the side, while versions B and C include sleeve stays. Version D adds flowers and a base. Versions C and D also feature topstitching on the hemline.

The pattern comes with a size chart to help you choose the right fit, and it is supplied in an envelope. It works well with fabric that holds its shape, so the silhouette and details really stand out. When no seam allowance is otherwise stated, 1.5 cm is already included.

Choose this Butterick pattern if you want a charming dressmaking project with room to play with your fabric choice and finishing details.
